Vinod Kumar Chaube

Vinod Kumar Chaube is a founder member of Vidya Ashram , member of the Executive and the Ashram Samiti, he has contributed from the beginning to building of the infrastructure and the activities of the Ashram. Vinod has been with this knowledge movement since 1993. His work is composed of the three streams – (i) Studying through field investigation and reporting on variety of traditional enterprises in Varanasi and nearby region. These include traditional iron smelting, leather working and health care practice. He organized the first demonstrations of the Agaria Iron Smelting furnace before the professional communities at Gandhian Institute of Studies, Varanasi and at I.I.T. Bombay in 1993. (ii) His engagement with the peasants and agriculture involved a Swadeshi Krishi Abhiyan and search for local cotton growers in Varanasi. From the Ashram he organized with others a knowledge dialogue forum among farmers called Kisan Peeth. He is the Varanasi District President of Bharatiya Kisan Union and in that capacity he regularly participates in kisan Union panchayats  and organizes meetings of farmers. He has been part of the Lokavidya movement and generally the Congresses of Sciences and Technologies of India  from its inception and was a member of the organizing team of Lokavidya Mahadhiveshan 1998.
